I have discovered that it is best to keep up to date with the Ubuntu releases. As of 24 January 2026 I currently have installed version 24.10 which has not only gone EOL (end of life) but also the release following it has also gone EOL. This makes it difficult to upgrade - in fact the advice indicates that in such a scenario it is quicker to install a new system from scratch.

On Tuesday 27 January 2026 I installed Ubuntu 26.04 LTS (Long Time Support). This version has the name Resolute Raccoon.
The install went well, choosing to run installer from the desktop of a try only running copy of 26.04 booted from USB.
Need to reduce this image size further and add another image to show the install options that were offered.
